Sox9 is decently well conserved in vertebrate species, and has distant cousins in the invertebrates as well.  Sox9 is characterized by its SoxN domain and its HMG box domain, which are aligned in the same relative pattern in the vertebrates.  The alignment of the amino acid sequences is able to be downloaded below.
